Objectives

The objectives of the Masters in Sustainable Chemistry are:

1. Acquire a basic knowledge of the principles of sustainable chemistry and to develop an overview of historical developments have led to the development of it and other related findings.

2. Understand the principles of sustainable chemistry and its application to implementation in practice of industrial chemical processes

3. Knowing the tools and the general areas of work of the sustainable chemistry among them include:

  • Use of starting materials renocables
  • Atom Economy
  • Use of cleaner solvents (solvents in supercritical conditions, water chemistry, solvent-free reactions, etc.).
  • Alternative reaction conditions (microwave, electro ...)
  • Catalysis: homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, acid-base catalizadoes, redox catalysts, imprinting catalysts, solid, catalytic enantioselective ...
  • Photochemistry and photocatalysis
  • Polymers and biodegradable materials and their use in chemical processes
  • Sources alternatives enerǵeticas
  • Recovery of waste

   4. Recognize the toxicity / hazard as a physical property / structure can be designed and manipulated.

5. Understand and properly assess examples of industrial processes where compliance with the principles of sustainable chemistry

6. Familiar with current trends in green chemistry to perform a critical analysis of the degree of compliance with the principles of Green Chemistry in a particular industrial process

A student, finishing the studies of Inter-University Graduate Program in Sustainable Chemistry, must possess an advanced knowledge of the general concepts outlined in sustainable chemistry, as well as the main techniques and methodologies involved.
